International Scottish Gin Day

Posted on

Every drop of Isle of Harris Gin is distilled, bottled, sealed and shipped from our distillery in the small village of Tarbert.

From the heart of the Outer Hebrides, we're proud to share our island spirit with gin lovers not just here in the UK but across the world.

It may surprise people to learn just how far word of our work has spread and today we sell and send beautiful bottles to 12 different countries…

France, Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Denmark, Canada, New Zealand, Japan, Malta, Taiwan, Greece and Australia, all now enjoy our Isle of Harris Gin, with Italy and Mexico about to join our far-flung family.

We're also working very hard to reach our friends in the USA, building connections with new partners and creating a special 750ml bottle to enter the market, hopefully by the end of 2020.

So, we're delighted to officially celebrate our global connections this Saturday as part of International Scottish Gin Day, a new event marking the success of our growing industry on the world stage.

Created by the team behind The Gin Cooperative, ISGD has pulled together a whole host of events from Barcelona to Melbourne, Hong Kong to New York as well as happenings back here at home.

For our part, we were pleased to have sent a bottle of Isle of Harris Gin to our new friends at the incredible and ornate ATLAS bar in Singapore to serve to their customers this weekend as part of a specially chosen ISGD menu with placement within an impressive collection housed in their gin tower.

A bottle has also travelled to San Francisco to join the tasting menu at the Whitechapel bar, home to California's biggest gin selection. Consistently listed in 'The World's Best Bars' and 'Top 50 Gin bars In The World', it's firmly considered a must-visit for any gin aficionado.

We're also being served in the Gin Palace in Melbourne as part of their offering of specially made Scottish Gin cocktails.

Here in the UK our ambassador Iona will be celebrating the day at The Gin Fayre in Edinburgh, held in the prestigious Mansfield Traquair described as 'Edinburgh's Sistene Chape'. If you're in town for the start of the Edinburgh Festival, then come along and join in.

Finally, here in Harris, we've been inviting all our distillery visitors to place a pin in a special map displayed in the Shop, to mark their home countries and where they've come from. We've also been asking people across our social media channels to ‘virtually’ do likewise.

In just a week the map has filled with bright red and white pins, showing just how far our story has reached. There's barely room left in Europe, and there are few corners without at least one pin present.

Tonight, we invite you to take part in our map-making too. If you've enjoyed our Isle of Harris Gin, simply send an email to mike@harrisdistillery.com with your exact location, and we'll be pleased to place a pin on your behalf.

We'd also love to see any photographs of our Isle of Harris Gin being enjoyed far from our shores, so please send them to us too, and we'll share them across social media on Saturday night.

Wishing you all a very happy International Scottish Gin Day when it comes, wherever you are in the world!
