The Isle of Harris has always had a strong connection to the sea, and our distillery is no different, particularly with the arrival of a new marina right on our doorstep. 

Summer arrived here in Harris, almost unnoticed. After weeks of tupperware skies and torrential rain, there seemed little obvious indication of the season by the time the solstice was upon us.

Yesterday afternoon saw the culmination of our Harris Tweed Project competition, an island-wide challenge to local school children to design an official distillery tweed.

We built our distillery with a founding aim of addressing the issues surrounding endemic population decline here in the Outer Hebrides.

There are lots of good reasons to make beautiful Outer Hebridean spirits, but here at the Isle of Harris Distillery, we do it with purpose. We want to build an enterprise which lasts for generations, creating long-term, permanent jobs in the heart of our local community.

As I drove the long and winding road to the village of Keose, I began to wonder just what I’d let myself in for, as the next heavy hail shower rolled in, hammering down on the car roof. This wasn’t quite the sunny day away from my desk I’d had in mind…

This week we’re delighted to announce our Isle of Harris Gin has reached the end of its 10,500 mile journey and arrived in the city of Melbourne, Australia.  

Spring is in full swing here in Harris, and we’ve been blessed with beautiful days full of birdsong and big blue skies. The crofts, machair and moors around us abound with new lambs, and those of us who cut peats are already making a start on this year's hard work.
